About Us

At the Lorna Whiston Institute of Learning, we firmly believe in the importance of the on-going professional development of teachers and educators working in the field of English language teaching. Moreover, we believe that teacher training courses should offer practical assistance based on sound, up to date theoretical principles. That is why in 2005, we teamed up with The University of York, one of UK's leading Universities for Education, to offer their Master of Arts in Teaching English to Young Learners (MA in TEYL).

The MA in TEYL is a highly specialised, two year distance learning programme which provides an unparalleled opportunity for educators to upgrade their skills and knowledge, and to become real experts in this field. The programme has been running in Singapore since 2005 and has a flawless track record. Moreover, this prestigious Masters degree won the Vice Chancellor's Award in 2009 for outstanding teaching and learning, an award nominated by the programme's students themselves.

The University of York is named one of the world's top 100 universities in new rankings published today. The University is one of the biggest climbers in the QS - Times Higher Education Supplement rankings. The league ranks the leading 500 of the world's 40,000 universities. York is ranked 74th in the league table, a rise of 50 places from last year. For more information, please visit http://www.york.ac.uk/admin/presspr/pressreleases/ilt.htm.

Lorna Whiston Institute of Learning is looking forward to linking up with more overseas institutions in the future, to broaden the range of professional development courses for teachers that we offer.
