Phonics and Reading Development
(This course comprises six 3 hour sessions)

This course aims to give participants an understanding of different approaches to phonics and reading instruction within the primary classroom, and an understanding of phonemes and of letter-sound correlation to help teachers understand how to teach this skill to emergent readers. We demonstrate many teaching techniques, including the use of drama, songs and rhymes. We aim to equip teachers with the skills to assist children who are at different stages of proficiency with their reading. This programme is interactive, and involves teachers in practical activities that reinforce a communicative approach to language teaching.
