Our Kindergarten 1 children enjoy a carefully structured and
exciting learning programme that covers the all key areas
of learning* (see
below). The K1 programme is conducted in both
English and Mandarin, to ensure complete immersion in both
languages. As a result of this, our K1 students quickly learn
to switch from one language to the other quite naturally.
We
aim to give our K1 children as many direct learning experiences
as possible so that learning is involving and meaningful to
them. Each K1 student at Lorna Whiston Pre-School follows
an individualised reading programme which is regularly monitored
by the class teacher. As well as focussing on developing strong
reading and language skills, we place a significant emphasis
on problem-solving and numeracy skills, on developing creativity,
and on nurturing physical and social skills. |

By
the time our students get to the end of K2, we aim for
them
to be self-motivated learners with a thirst for knowledge
and a firm grounding in all the key areas necessary for
entry
into Primary 1. Firm in the belief that children learn best
when they are having fun, our K2 programme has been carefully
designed to combine very focussed learning activities with
specific learning outcomes with a fun, experiential approach
that allows the children to make their own discoveries
about learning.
