| This recipe for strawberry pops is an all
time favourite with children (and adults!) and is very easy
to make together with the help of your budding young cooks.
In addition, we have highlighted at each stage of the recipe
possible learning opportunities that tie in with our pre-school
curriculum.
PLEASE NOTE: ADULT SUPERVISION IS ADVISED WITH ALL COOKING
ACTIVITIES
You will need:
1 box strawberries
1 large bar white chocolate
1 packet of raspberry jelly crystals
Satay sticks
1.
Let your child help you wash the strawberries and talk
to her about why we need to wash fruit before we
eat it. (hygiene). Talk about where strawberries grow (science) and what colour,
shape and texture they
have (language).
2. Count the strawberries together as you put them to one
side in a dish. (maths)
3.
Next melt the white chocolate over a bowl of hot water.
This stage should be done by an adult for safety
reasons. As your child watches the process, discuss with her about the dangers
of hot water (personal,
social and emotional development).
4.
Help your child to pierce each strawberry with a satay
stick, again showing her how to avoid poking herself (or
others) with the stick. With very young children, this
stage is best done by an adult. (fine motor skills
development and safety awareness)
4.
Then let your child help you dip the top of the strawberries
on sticks, one by one, into the melted chocolate
then into the jelly crystals that are in a separate dish. Talk about how the
jelly crystals stick to the chocolate and why this is so (reasoning
skills).
5.
Finally, place the plate of strawberry pops in the fridge
for about an hour and talk about what fridges do
(science)
6. Take your strawberry pops out of the fridge and enjoy
with family and friends (sharing)!! Describe
the taste. (language)
