Hi! I'm Helen Marjan and I'm the Joint Managing Director and
the Director
of Studies at Lorna Whiston.
I have been involved in teaching in Singapore since 1989, and
have had
the opportunity during this time to teach English to students
from all over
the South East Asia region, including Thailand, Indonesia, Korea,
Taiwan
and Japan. I have also worked in local Singapore schools, teaching
English
to both local and overseas students, and thus have a very thorough
knowledge of the Singapore Education system.
I graduated with a four year upeer second class Honours degree
in Modern Languages from Hull University, UK, then went on to
take a Post Graduate Certificate in
Education with a specialism in language teaching. Prior to coming
to
Singapore I taught language in both England and France, working
mainly
with 12-16 year olds.
I am frequently involved in designing, writing and conducting
teacher
training programmes and seminars in the field of TESL (Teaching
English
as a Second Language) and have designed and written many English
language programmes for students of all levels of language proficiency.
I believe that for students to have success with language learning,
classes
must be enjoyable and students need to be motivated. I also believe
that good teachers never stop learning and a few years ago I
took a Masters degree in Teaching English to Young Learners with
the University of York, UK.
