Hi! My name is Ben Lyons and I graduated from the University of Melbourne, first completing a Bachelor of Science, majoring in chemistry, then completing a Diploma of Education.
I taught at Kealba Secondary School for 2 years. Initially, I applied for a chemistry/science teaching position, but having done some mathematics subjects at university and having played a lot of different sports, I taught these subjects as well. The school was located in the western suburbs of Melbourne and although I found many aspects of the job rewarding, it was also a fairly demanding job.
After 2 years at Kealba, Tansy (teacher at Parkway Parade) and I moved to Taipei. For the first six months of teaching in Taiwan, I was teaching part-time kindergarten and full-time language school classes. This was a very rewarding experience, and one which I am enjoying building upon as a teacher with Lorna Whiston Study Centres.
